About Matias

Teacher, drummer, producer.

I teach from the perspective of a working musician: sound, time, listening, discipline, creativity, and real musical communication.

Career background

More than two decades in music education and professional performance.

My professional path began at the Escuela de Música de Buenos Aires (EMBA), where I received a merit-based scholarship and earned a Professional Musician degree.

Since then I have taught private students, supported ensembles, led jazz workshops internationally, toured across Argentina, Chile, Belize, and the United States, and recorded drums for artists and projects around the world.

Bio

A lifelong career built around rhythm, education, and studio craft.

Matias Menarguez started drumming at 13 and turned that passion into a lifelong career after studying at EMBA (Buenos Aires Music School) on a merit-based scholarship.

He has spent over 20 years as an on-demand session drummer in the jazz and indie scenes and has performed in multiple award-winning musical theater productions in Argentina. His career has taken him on tour through Argentina, Chile, Belize, and the United States, including performances at international jazz festivals.

Having studied with Dorian Mori, Daniel "Pipi" Piazzolla, Mark Guiliana, Greg Hutchinson, and other masters, Matias draws on those influences to guide hundreds of students and facilitate monthly jazz drum workshops, focusing on technical mastery and musicality.

For the last 12 years, he has also focused on remote session recording and mixing at his own studio, contributing to hundreds of songs for artists worldwide while composing and recording music for video games.

Matias believes that while there is one musical foundation, there is no single path that works for every student. Creating a customized study program for each aspiring musician is key to staying engaged, inspired, and constantly improving.

Why that matters for students

Lessons are musical from the first day.

Technique matters, but students also need to understand time, feel, dynamics, listening, and how music works with other people.

That is the thread connecting my teaching, performance, and studio work. Lessons are structured, but always connected to real music.
